We Have Been Idiots

It has seemed to me for some time that the human species must be intrinsically flawed as it appears to be relentlessly working against its own existence by trashing the very earth on which its survival depends, so I did a little reading… I did quite a bit of reading, in fact, and the general consensus among researchers from various disciplines seems to be not that we are so much flawed as that we are simply idiots and that there are way too many of us. That, had we not over-populated the planet in the name of “My Religion Is the Best”, we might be doing just fine even though we’d still most likely be killing each other over radically stupid stuff… because there will always be idiots, just the fewer idiots the better seemed to be the point the experts were making.
That is not workin’ for me. It’s not really workin’ for anyone.
It seems to me that any species that would either participate in or allow the utter ruination and depletion of its own environment, compromising its food supply as well as the air that it breathes, is somehow intrinsically flawed on accounta they’re committing genocide on themselves.
It seems to me obvious that if I am not contributing in some way to the solution of this mass idiocy then I am complicit in it… but at this point we’ve devolved so far that options are few and far between.
As soon as we realized what plastics were doing — not just to our environment but to our bodies themselves… even in utero! They have been found to be literally incorporated into our bodies at this point — the use of plastics should have been banned, discontinued. Immediately!
Charging extra for plastic bags at the grocery store ain’t helpin’. How about NO plastic bags? What about paper bags? They worked just fine fifty years ago… better, actually. Why are we not making more noise about this bullshit? Because we are all idiots. And we’re all working every day to ensure that the earth will become a place where humanity cannot thrive.
Perhaps “we” aren’t consciously intending that but we can’t escape the fact that we have been complicit fools in the efforts of BIG $$ to cut their shipping costs in order to boost their profits — since plastic is lighter than, say, glass— and heaven knows we can’t let the billionaires down.
We are all idiots.
It’s the only answer I can come up with… that, and at this point, because we have been idiots, there are very few products on the shelves that give you an option… it’s plastic or forget about it. I carry cloth shopping bags everywhere I go. They live in my car. It’s not a big deal but it’s only a drop in a big plastic bucket. Humanity will no doubt be taking my little piece of integrity to its grave.
