Musing on Creation

Are we,
The human race,
I wonder,
Some sad experiment…
A planted seed that promised growth
Then failed and simply bent.
Could we have lived, I wonder,
As bees within a hive,
Or dolphins in the deep blue sea
Who, as a pod, all thrive?
I watch a chipmunk skitter
Through the fallen leaves,
The birds up in the treetops
With no need to ‘believe’
We’re flawed, I think,
A grand mistake,
The worst of what might be
And pale, in comparison,
To every living tree.
