...Imagine a life of a person of the 20th century who was massively wealthy and had massively wealthy friends, all of whom were - by nature? - sexually perverted. No poverty there. No famine. Yet they would do whatever was required to satisfy that perversion, thus becoming not-good people.

Because I know, from experience, that things like this happen, I am forced to question any kind of 'innate goodness.' It feels to me as if some kind of external component, some mitigating force - guidance of some sort - must play a role.
